Graham with Gala Sponsors

No one is immune to heartache, disappointment, and loss in their lives, but God is always in control and is there to help us — that was the encouraging message that Ruth Graham shared with some 240 guests at Atlantic Christian School’s 3rd annual Legacy Gala on Saturday, April 16 at the Stockton Seaview Hotel in Galloway. The Gala raised over $54,000 for Atlantic Christian’s educational and financial aid programs.

Graham spoke passionately about the value of Christian education, noting that she attended Christian school and that several of her nine grandchildren attend Christian school.  “I believe in Christian education, now more than ever, as the culture around us tells us there are no absolutes,” Graham said.  “But we know there is an infinite, almighty God who is on the throne, is still in charge, and will provide a  way through our struggles, and that is what Atlantic Christian teaches.”

Atlantic Christian’s Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen presented Graham with a plaque, noting that her life has been a shining light reflecting a legacy of faith, hope, love, and service. Graham is an  accomplished author, Bible teacher, and president of Ruth Graham Ministries. She has written nine books including the best-selling In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart, the award-winning Step Into the Bible, and her latest book, Fear Not Tomorrow, God is Already There: Trusting Him in Uncertain Times.

In addition to Graham’s keynote address, the Legacy Gala program included presentations from ACS students and recognition of the Atlantic Christian 2016 Servant’s Heart Award recipients.  The Middle School and High School Chorales performed two songs, 4th graders Jade Qin and Hannah Campbell displayed their musical talents on the flute and piano, and essays focusing on the legacy of influential people in students’ lives were presented by 8th grader Emily Kelley and 12th graders Juyue Zhang and David Heuman. Seniors Jeff McConnell and Robin Simpson also participated in the program. Board of Directors’ Chair Doug Pearson presented the 2016 Servant’s Heart Awards to Linwood Community Church and ACS alumni parent and plumbing contractor Gary Higbee for their exemplary commitment and voluntary service to Atlantic Christian.
