Track and Field

Fifty-five students participated in the Tri-State Christian Athletic Conference track meet on April 15, 2014 which ACS hosted at its track for the ninth consecutive year. It was a beautiful day where alumni, faculty, staff, and parents came out to support the ACS athletes and welcomed the athletes from Ambassador Christian Academy, Baptist Regional, Cumberland Christian School, Gloucester County Christian School, The Kings Christian School, and The Pilgrim Academy.

Both the ACS high school boys’ and girls’ teams placed first in the league meet, competing in 12 different events. The boys’ team took first place in 8 of the 12 events, scoring a total of 58 points, and the girls’ team placed first in all 12 of the events with a total score of 68 points.

The top four scorers for the high school boys’ team were Mike Heath (15 points), Jon Hevalow (11 points), Carl Phillips (10 points), and Bobby Boggs (9 points). The top scorers for the high school girls’ team were Dakota Hitchner (16 points), Tola Oguntuase (14 points), Mia Nocho (12 points), and Ola Oguntuase (11 points).

Both the middle school boys’ and girls’ teams also placed first in the track meet. The girls’ team placed first in 10 out of 12 events, scoring a total of 64 points, and the boys’ team placed first in 5 out of 12 events, scoring a total of 36 points.

The top scorers  for the middle school girls’ team were Rebekah Darragh (16 points), Serena D’Anna (11 points), Lindsey Ash (10 points), Isabella LoPresti (8 points), and Lola Oguntuase (8 points). The top scorers for the middle school boys’ team were Solomon Griffith (16 points), Ryan Lomangino (11 points), Elijah Chapman (11 points), and Alex Kelley (7 points).

Thirty high school students participated in the TSCAC track meet on May 7, 2014 which ACS hosted at its track for the eighth consecutive year. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams placed first in the meet, competing in 11 different events.  The boys’ team took first place in 8 of the 11 events, scoring a total of 64 points, and the girls’ team placed first in 6 of the 11 events with a total score of 52 points.

Special Recognition

A number of school and league records have been set at the annual TSCAC track meet by ACS high school students. Some of the outstanding ACS track and field stars:

  • Kenny Mercadante (’14) – Set a school and league record in 2014, running the 400 meter dash in 54.89 seconds. He also broke his own record and set a new school and league record running the 800 meter in 2:15.6.
  • The 4-man team of Dan and Dave Mercadante, Bobby Boggs, and Peter Murphy set a school and league record in 2014 in the 4 x 200 meter relay with a time of 1:42.1.
  • The 4-man team of Dan, Dave, and Kenny Mercadante and Bobby Boggs set a school and league record in 2014 in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:56.
  • Dave Heuman broke the school record in 2014 running the 2-mile in 11:56 and placed second in the race.
