Last weekend, our ACS Drama Department blessed our community with three excellent performances of The Sound of Music: Youth Edition. Our talented cast and stage crew was composed of students in 4th-12th grade who have been practicing for months for the show.
The Sound of Music: Youth Edition, as you may know, is based on a true story of a governess then mother named Maria (played by Freshman Rose Campbell) who helps the von Trapp children and father re-discover their love of music and closeness as a family. The von Trapp family were played by Junior Ethan Warren (Captain von Trapp), Junior Luci Huff (Liesl), 8th grader Joey Kinch (Fredrich), Sophomore Hailey Everland (Louisa), 4th grader Andrew Paone (Kurt), 8th grader Layla Aspenberg (Brigitta), 7th grader Brianna Shull (Marta) and 4th grader Lily Henigan (Gretl). Other major characters included Mother Abbess played by Senior Jordyn Styer, Max Detweiler played by Sophomore Matthew Coates and Rolf played by Junior Yuyu Choi. All of the minor characters and ensemble members also did a phenomenal job.
One piece of feedback that was repeated over and over was how amazed the audience was about the amazing musical abilities of the cast of the show. Some audience members even asked if the cast was lip-syncing. (Answer: No, that was all them!!)
At the conclusion of the show, Mr. Lee Martin shared a devotional thought with the audience, reminding us to always look to the Lord for what is missing in our lives. He is the one who put a special “song in each heart”.
We are so grateful for the many families, friends and members of the community who attended the show, encouraged our students with flowers, candygrams and their love and support. Your presence means so much as we encourage our performers to grow in their gifts and use them to honor the Lord.
Congratulations to everyone involved in The Sound of Music: Youth Edition! It is a smashing success!
