October is Fire Prevention Month, and ACS students from preschool through 5th grade enjoyed a special visit from local firefighters and EMTs who shared valuable lessons about fire safety and emergency preparedness.

Chief Engineer Don Stauffer and Firefighter Andy Taylor from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company brought a ladder truck to campus and taught students important safety tips, including how to call 911, the importance of checking smoke detectors, and what to do if their clothing catches fire using the “Stop, Drop, and Roll” method. Students also had the opportunity to explore the fire truck up close and learn about the equipment firefighters use, including their protective gear, hoses, ladders, and tools.

Egg Harbor Township EMTs A. Orellana-Guevara, M. Lenehan, and J. Newsome also joined the visit, giving students a closer look inside an ambulance and explaining how EMTs use specialized equipment to care for people during emergencies.

This hands-on learning experience helped students better understand fire safety while gaining a greater appreciation for the important work of our local first responders.

A special thank-you to the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company and Egg Harbor Township EMTs for taking time out of their busy schedules to educate our students. We are grateful for your dedication to keeping our community safe!
