Introducing the High School Varsity Soccer Teams

The High School Varsity Soccer Teams are off to an exciting start this season, showcasing both skill and determination on the field. Led by a strong group of seniors, both the Boys and Girls teams have demonstrated a great balance of experience and fresh talent.

Varsity Girls Soccer
The Varsity Girls have had a strong beginning, recording 3 wins and 2 losses. In their victories, they have shown exceptional offensive prowess, scoring a remarkable 28 goals while allowing only 2. One of the highlights to date came on Tuesday, September 24, when they faced Gloucester County Christian. In a thrilling match where Gloucester took the lead three times, the girls showed incredible resilience. With just 23 seconds left in the game, Freshman Caelyn Domsic netted the game-winning goal, defeating GCCS 4-3.

Varsity Boys Soccer
The Varsity boys have put forth a solid performance, starting the season with 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. Last Friday, September 20, ACS tied conference rival King’s Christian School 0-0 in double overtime. Sophomore goalie, Ethan Costello, had 9 saves during that nail-biter. As the team continues to build chemistry and confidence, they look forward to the rest of the 2024 season.

Both Varsity teams have significant away games scheduled for September 30 against The Pilgrim Academy, where they will aim to build on their early season successes.

Stay tuned for more updates and support our Varsity teams as they continue their journey this season!

Varsity Basketball Teams Competing in National Tournament

Our Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams traveled to Ohio this week to compete in a 3-day national tournament that concludes March 2. The tournament is organized by the National Christian School Athletic Association and features teams from across the U.S. who are the best in their regions. We’re praying for safe travels and that our athletes will play to the best of their God-given abilities.

Our Boys’ and Girls’ teams lost to King’s Christian School in the Tri-State Christian Athletic Conference Championship Games on Saturday, but we are proud of every player and for an outstanding season overall for both teams. The Varsity Boys’ team received a trophy at the TSCAC Championship tournament for being ranked first in the conference, finishing the regular season with an undefeated 12-0 record. The Varsity Girls’ finished the season ranked second in the conference.

In the Championship Game, senior Cole Johnson led the team with 17 points, senior Dan Roland had 11, and 6′ 7″ sophomore Landon Shivers had 10 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Junior point guard Ben Noble played strong throughout, scoring 9 points and 5 assists. “It was a tough game and we missed some key lay-ups later in the second half,” said head coach Dan Carney.  “Of course, we were disappointed with the way the game ended, but I’m very proud of this team and how hard they worked all season to bond and play for each other,” Carney said. “We went a month and a half and only lost one game, so overall it was a great season. It just didn’t end the way we had planned, but I shared with the team that rarely do our plans match up with God’s plans.”

Varsity Basketball Teams Gearing Up for TSCAC Playoffs

The Varsity Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams are heading next week to the Tri-State Christian Athletic Conference tournament. The Boys’ team, with an overall record of 16-8, enters the playoffs in first place after an undefeated (10-0) regular season in the conference. The girls, 11-10 overall, secured the #2 seed in the tournament with an 8-2 league record. Both teams have a bye in the quarter-final round (Tuesday, February 19) before hosting the semi-final games here at ACS on Thursday, February 21. The Girls’ team will play at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Boys’ team at 6:30 p.m. There is a small conference gate fee for these games – $1 per student, $2 per adult, or $5 per family. Go Cougars!

The playoffs will conclude on Saturday, February 23 at Gloucester County Christian School with the consolation games (Girls’ game at 1:00 p.m. and Boys’ game at 3:00 p.m.) followed by the Girls’ championship game at 5:00 p.m. and the Boys’ final at 7:00 p.m. The gate fees for Championship Saturday will be $2 per student, $3 per adult, or $10 per family.

New green “Protect the Den” T-shirts are available for $10 each in the Athletic Office. ACS fans are encouraged to purchase the shirts and wear them for our home games next Thursday.

Exciting Basketball Season Underway for Six ACS Cougars’ Teams

Cougars’ Basketball is in full swing with six teams playing in this 2018-19 season. Congratulations to the High School Varsity Boys’ basketball team, under head coach Dan Carney, for beating Gloucester County Christian School this week at home and remaining undefeated with a 6-0 record and in first place in the Tri-State Christian Athletic Conference at this half-way point in the season. Tuesday’s game against Gloucester was a real heart stopper, with forward Cole Johnson sinking a 3-point shot with 3.5 seconds left in the game that tied the score and sent the game into overtime. ACS went on to win in overtime, 59 to 56. Johnson, finished with 14 points, joined by other outstanding contributions from forward Landon Shivers with 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks, and point guard Ben Noble with 16 points. CLICK HERE to see a highlights video of Wednesday’s thrilling win. The High School Varsity Girls’ basketball team is also having a strong, winning season, with a 4-1 record and in second place behind King’s Christian School in the TSCAC.  The Lady Cougars, under head coach Kaylee Breunig, beat Gloucester County Christian 51-21 at home this week. The JV Boys’ and Girls’ teams are also seeing success and are gaining a lot of on-court playing time experience.

The Middle School teams are a third of the way into their season in the Atlantic Cape Junior High League. The Middle School Girls’ team, under head coach Grant Miller, started off strong winning a season-opening non-league tournament at ACIT and have continued to excel in posting an 8-1 record so far. Seventh-grader Evangelina Kim is the leading scorer off the bench as well as a strong spiritual presence on the team. The Middle School Boys’ team, under first-year coach Lee Martin, is currently 3-3 and continues to improve each time the young players take the court. Eighth grade guard Caleb Vogel has lead the team in scoring, averaging almost 15 points per game.
