The excitement is building for our Silent Auction at the Legacy Gala on May 12 as over 60 donations will now be up for bid — including gift cards from restaurants and spas, tickets to amusement and water parks, and get-away trip packages. The auction will once again incorporate mobile bidding, allowing ACS families and friends to bid on items whether or not they are able to attend the Legacy Gala in person.

Want a sneak pick at some of the items up for bid? CLICK HERE to go to our online bidding site. More items will be added to the site every day. Themed classroom gift baskets, featuring donations by ACS parents, will also be part of the Silent Auction and the deadline to donate items for those baskets is Monday, May 1.

Online bidding in the Silent Auction will open five days before the Gala — on Monday, May 8 at 5 p.m. — and will close on Friday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. All are invited to bid, whether at the event or from afar. All bidders need to register — creating a user name and password — before they can bid.  CLICK HERE to register to bid, or go to:  https://bit.ly/2023ACSauction

Student Spotlight — Fellowship of Christian Athletes Shares Testimony of Senior Cruz Lewis from Summer Camp Experience

ACS 12th grader Cruz Lewis was a featured athlete the week of September 19 in a Fellowship of Christian Athletes South Jersey email sent out to hundreds of FCA friends and supporters in which he shared the impact that a summer FCA sports camp had on his spiritual growth. Cruz will also be sharing his testimony at an FCA Fields of Faith event on October 12 at the Lower Cape May Regional football field, to be held from 6-8 p.m.

Cruz has been a stand-out track athlete for ACS and received a scholarship from the ACS Athletic Department last spring to attend a one-week FCA sports camp at Kutztown University in June to receive special training in track. ACS student Jayden Sanchez, then a 9th grader, also attended the sports camp with Cruz.

In the email, Cruz shared his testimony about how the FCA camp impacted his walk with Christ. Following is his testimony:

“Going to FCA camp at Kutztown University was for sure a life changing and life altering experience for me.  I have never been away to camp and thought it was going to be something that I would not enjoy. I was proven wrong upon arrival when I was greeted by the most welcoming people, and that really showed me that they were there to further the kingdom of God through the people that were coming through those doors. My walk with Christ was not the strongest, as I was goin through some hard times going into camp, but, being around my brothers in Christ and learning together really brought me out of my dark time and helped me along.

“I believe I was placed there for a reason. God had a plan for that time at camp. In leaving Kutztown, I have brought with me compassion and love for all of the people around me. I want to make an impact for Christ and I have tried to lead those around me in a more positive way to attend the one goal in mind, and that is to further God’s kingdom, not for personal gain but for personal and for others growth and the growth of the Kingdom.

“I was truly blessed by the experience of going to Kutztown University for FCA Camp and I look forward to going next year and being the best leader I can be.”

Athletic Director Pam Hitchner said she was very happy to see Cruz growing in his walk with the Lord and has posted his testimony on a bulletin board near the Athletic Department office in the gym.  Hitchner noted that Cruz has been a four-sport athlete throughout his middle school and high school years at ACS. At the May 2022 Tri-State Christian Athletic Conference track meet, Cruz excelled in several events — winning 1st place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.5; placing 2nd in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:13, and placing 3rd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.1.

New Giving Tree Contest Focuses Students on Supporting Charities as Christmas Service Project

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our hallways and classrooms, as Christmas tree decorating got underway on December 3 — part of “The Giving Tree” contest, a new service project that is encouraging students from kindergarten to 12th grade to give back during this holiday season to charities in our community and around the world.

“This Christmas, many worthy organizations that serve in our community and abroad are struggling due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic,” said Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen. “Our new Giving Tree service project is a way that our students and our entire school family can reach out and support the work of these beneficial organizations.”

Oblen said twenty-four, six-foot lighted trees are being decorated with a theme reflecting the charity that the students chose to support. Some of the charities selected include: Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the Cape May Zoo, Camp Haluwasa, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Funny Farm, the Humane Society of Atlantic County, Rio Missions, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Toys for Tots, and the Scullville Volunteer Fire Department.

Students were busy this week making a variety of decorations for their trees, such as dog chew toys out of T-shirts for the Humane Society tree, white paper snowflakes, and mini wooden bridges for the Rio Missions tree. The decorating will be completed by Monday, December 7 and then the students will begin reaching out to family members and friends to raise money for their class’s chosen charity. Photos of trees will be posted on the ACS Facebook page and other social media. An online donation form will be provided.

The contest will end on Monday, December 21 and then judging will be held. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, December 23 during the Elementary and High School Christmas Chapels. Classes are competing for prizes for raising the most money for their charity and for the best creativity in decorating design.  All donations received will be given to the designated charities.

New Life Assembly Pastor Treats ACS Students to Free Frosties

New Life Assembly Pastor Jon Serbin – “The Frosty Guy.”

New Life Assembly Pastor Jonathan Serbin has a unique way of building relationships with students at ACS and other area schools — he visits them at school during lunch and hands out free Frosties from Wendy’s. Pastor Jon, also known as PJ, stopped by ACS during lunch on Thursday, January 16 to hand out vanilla and chocolate Frosties to 6th to 12th grade students and to just spend time talking with them.

Affectionately known by ACS students as “The Frosty Guy,” Pastor Jon started his generous gesture about two years ago. He now hands out free Wendy’s Frosties about twice a month to students at ACS as well as other area schools, including students in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Clubs at the Egg Harbor Township and Mainland High Schools.

“The reason I do this is because students don’t care about what you know until they know that you care,” Pastor Jon said. “One of the best ways to show that you care is to spend money on them and handing out Frosties gives me an opportunity to speak into their lives.” Pastor Jon began serving on staff at New Life Assembly of Egg Harbor Township in 2013 as the Youth Pastor. During 2017, Pastor Jon was transitioned into the Next Generation Pastoral role and now oversees birth through college age. He is a graduate of Valley Forge Christian College with a Bachelor’s in youth ministry and a minor in counseling.

ACS looks forward to thanking and honoring Pastor Jon and other area pastors and ministry leaders for the important role they play in our students’ lives at our upcoming Pastor Appreciation Day on February 12.
