Students Show Their Creative Side in Christmas Holiday Activities

Students from elementary to high school had an opportunity to express their creativity in several Christmas holiday activities on the last day of school in December.

Students and staff came to school on December 23 dressed in their ugliest Christmas sweaters and wearing Christmas-themed face masks, hoping to win prizes for their creativity. The prize winners were selected during chapels that day. 2nd grader Logan Dozier (pictured at bottom left with her class, seated third from right),  3rd grader Mathias Dye (pictured at bottom right, second from left) and 6th grader Jude Gibbs (pictured at left in the center), won the Ugliest Sweater Contest in the Elementary and Upper School divisions.

1st grader Alba Reed, 4th grader Amelia Crawford (pictured in 2nd row below, at left) and 6th grader Keira Frontino (pictured below with Upper School Principal Meg McHale), won first place for Best Christmas-Themed Face Mask. All the winners received a dress down pass and a gift card to Five Below.

In kindergarten, students decorated Christmas cookies to express their creativity.  The students were inspired after hearing Mrs. Reilly read the story of “The Gingerbread Man” and learned about how the mom decorated her gingerbread cookie, who then magically came to life. The students had decorating cookies shaped like Christmas trees and bells with M&Ms, gumdrops, sprinkles, and icing, and they got to take their cookies home.

In 5th grade, students collaborated on an original video project about the true meaning of Christmas. Each student appeared in the 2-minute-long video, produced by faculty member Bethany Kiefer, and spoke about different aspects of the Biblical meaning and significance of Christmas.  The video was posted on the ACS Facebook page on December 24 and can be viewed on the ACS YouTube channel.

Students, Faculty, Staff Celebrate Christ’s Birth at All School Christmas Chapel

Our annual all-school Christmas Chapel on Friday, December 20 brought students from preschool to 12th grade and all faculty and staff together for a joyous celebration of Christ’s birth.  The chapel opened with students from PK3 and PK4 singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” followed by prayer offered by Elementary Principal and Director of Early Education, Mrs. Gail Alford.  Mrs. Amy Nelson’s 1st grade class came next with a skit depicting the story of Jesus Christ’s birth.

Worship time continued with Mrs. Morgan Gibson’s American Sign Language class performance of “Noel.”  The 5th grade worship team got everyone on their feet to sing and move to “Born is the King” and It’s Christmas Time.”

Guest speaker Cindy S. Brumbaugh shared her testimony and introduced the story behind her three children’s books: “Charlie the Wiener Wonder Dog”, “Charlie the Wiener Wonder Dog and the Lost Woobie” and “Tea with Benny and the Honeybee”.  Cindy also shared scriptures and with Christ’s birth, reminded everyone about God’s love and to open our hearts and minds to the wonderful gift of Christ’s salvation.

Some lighter moments in chapel included the popular and much anticipated Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, with the assembly voting by acclamation for their favorites from among teachers and students representing each class. After several rounds of voting, 3rd grade class teacher, Mr. Eric Tardif,  was declared the winner.  The winners of the Christmas Door Decorating Contest were also announced.

Students, Faculty, Staff Celebrate Christ’s Birth at All School Christmas Chapel

Our annual all-school Christmas Chapel on Friday, December 21 brought students from preschool to 12th grade and all faculty and staff together for a joyous celebration of Christ’s birth. The chapel opened with the kindergarten students reciting from memory Luke 2:8-11, followed by prayer offered by Event Coordinator Jessica Martin. Worship time continued with the 3rd graders singing and signing to Lauren Daigle’s Christmas song entitled “Noel.”  The combined 5th grade, Middle School, and High School worship teams got everyone on their feet to sing and move to “O What a Glorious Night.” The 5th graders then presented a video of unique artwork they had created for a Bible class project that illustrated the many names of Jesus found in the Bible, such as Savior, Messiah, King of Kings, and Lamb of God. High school faculty member Dave Genter presented the chapel devotional, tracing the timeline of Jesus — from the beginning when He created the world, to his birth, death, and resurrection. “Today Jesus is reining in heaven with a crown on his head as the king of the universe and the best Christmas present ever is that one day we will be reining with Jesus forever and ever,” Genter said.

Some lighter moments in chapel included the popular and much anticipated Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, with the assembly voting by acclamation for their favorites from among teachers and students representing each class. After several rounds of voting, 5th grader Elijah Weiler was declared the winner.  The winners of the Christmas Door Decorating Contest were also announced. The 1st grade students concluded the program with a humorous skit on the good and bad things about Christmas, after which a surprise flash mob of faculty and staff danced and sang to the students, who were seated all around the gym, to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
