Congratulations to junior Joshua Mizrahi who was recently selected as a top 10 finalist in the 2018 “Diverse Minds Writing Challenge” for an original children’s book entitled “Who You Are” that he wrote and illustrated. The writing challenge was sponsored by B’nai B’rith International. Josh entered the contest as part of an extra-credit project he began in mid-January in Miss Novack’s AP language composition class. Novack said the project was to write a children’s book that explored the ideals of inclusion, kindness, and respect.“Josh worked extremely hard on his book and his story and illustrations are amazing,” Novack said. “We hope he brings home the grand prize.” The first place prize is a $5,000 scholarship and publication and distribution of the winning book. The top finalists’ submissions are now being reviewed by a judging panel comprised of prominent community members, educators, local officials and industry leaders who will vote for those placing first, second and third. Josh and his family, Miss Novack, and Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen have been invited to attend the awards dinner on June 5 where B’nai B’rith will announce the top winners, present scholarship prizes, and reveal the first-place, published book to the community.
