Students in Miss Stonelake’s 9th grade physical science class designed and built model roller coasters as part of a class project that they presented to their fellow students June 6-8. The roller coasters pictured here were created by Hannah Urbaczewski and Beca Kimmerley (“Loot Liama,” top left); JJ Jacoby and Dan Sheldon (“Super Bowl 52,” top right, JJ with Miss Stonelake), Shelby Einwechter (“Ohana,” bottom left), and Haoshen “Katherine” Kong (“Jurassic Park,” bottom right). The students were required to name and decorate their coasters and include hills, loops, and a vehicle that could travel through the entire coaster without stopping. The assignment helped students apply what they had learned about energy conversion, friction, and the law of conservation of energy.
