On Monday, October 16, students from preschool to 5th grade had the opportunity to learn important lessons about fire safety. Last week marked the nation’s Fire Prevention Week, and firefighters from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company visited our campus to share their knowledge.
Don Stauffer, Chief Engineer of the fire company, spoke to our students about the importance of smoke detectors, the need to have “two ways out” in case of a fire, and how to remember “stop, drop, cover, and roll” in case of an emergency. Additionally, the students had a chance for an up-close look at a fire engine, complete with its tools, hoses, gauges, and rescue equipment. Fireman Kyle Duffy even demonstrated what it’s like to wear a firefighter suit. Chief Vernon Cruise also joined the event.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme was “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention TM.” The focus on cooking safety emphasizes simple yet vital steps people can take to reduce the risk of fires when cooking at home, ensuring the safety of themselves and those around them. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the firefighters from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company for raising our students’ awareness of fire safety and for their dedicated service to our community since 1934.
