“The Fantastic 20 Super Heroes of 3B” — that’s the title of a new, published book written and illustrated by the 20 students in Mrs. McCarthy’s 3rd grade class. This week, the students received their personal copies of the 48-page, bound book, published by Student Treasures Publishing. The book was the result of a month-long language arts class project in May and features stories and drawings by each student about a new and unique Super Hero of their own creation, with cover artwork drawn by Kaylee Tardif. One student, Ashlee Alford, created “Stuffy Girl,” who has the super power to make stuffed animals to give to sick children in the hospital. Another student, Owen Farrell, created “Morph Man” who has the power to morph into a cheetah to help the police catch a bad guy. “The students had to describe how their hero’s super power would help our community and our school,” said Mrs. McCarthy. The students also had to hand write their stories using their best cursive writing skills and incorporate similes, metaphors, and other literary devices they have learned over the course of the school year. “The students did an awesome job and they are so proud of the book that many families have purchased extra copies as a keepsake and to give as gifts,” McCarthy said.
