Nineteen students in Mrs. Bailey’s 8th grade language arts class saw the classic Charles Dickens’ holiday story of “A Christmas Carol” come to life on stage on their field trip December 14 to the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. Mrs. Bailey said the class has been reading the novel for the past two weeks and learning about the figurative language and literary devices Dickens used, including allusions, metaphors, and similes. “The students really enjoyed the musical adaptation of Dickens’ novel and for some of them it was their first time experiencing live theater, which made it even more memorable,” Mrs. Bailey said.
