A record number of students, ranging from the 4th-11th grades, participated in our 4th annual summer Band Camp and this year it grew to be a two-week program from August 7-18. For the close to 50 campers there was one-on-one instruction and small group rehearsals, culminating in performances on Fridays of both weeks for family and friends to attend. What a great way to help our students get ready for the school year and develop their God-given musical gifts. In addition to the lessons, there was time for refreshments and team-building games like making robots out of clean “trash” and creating spaghetti towers.
Thank you to Band Director Shirlene Perini and her team of teachers — Justin Garrone, Shawn Garrone, Rob Portnoy, Havilah Shorten, Billy Ting, Gage Westervelt, and George Yurick — for your dedication to sharing the gift of music with these talented students. Three of these talented and experienced musicians play with the Atlantic City Pops, two are members of Rowan University’s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, and two others are professional private music teachers.
