We were thrilled to welcome close to 200 parents last night to our annual Elementary Back-to-School Night. It was a special evening for parents to get better acquainted with our teachers and to learn more about the specific educational goals at each grade level from kindergarten to the 5th grade. The evening began in the gym with an overview of school events and programs from Early Ed and Elementary Director Gail Alford and other school staff in the gym. Parents then made their way to the classrooms to meet the teachers.

Parents enjoyed sitting at their child's desk and discovering heart-warming notes or artwork that their child had created especially for them. Thank you to the many parents who signed up to be Room Parents or to volunteer for other school activities and programs. We consider it a privilege to partner with each of you as we nurture and equip our students with a Biblical worldview through an accredited educational program.

We look forward to next week when we will welcome the parents of students in grades 6-12 on Tuesday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m. for our Middle School/High School Back-to-School Night.

Over 650 parents, students, faculty, and staff came out for our 14th annual Back-to-School BBQ on September 15, our largest turnout ever. What a great way to start off the school year! A variety of fun activities engaged our students and their families, including a rock wall, ga-ga ball, volleyball, a tractor-pulled wagon ride, and the Big Kahuna inflatable slide.

Art teacher Sherry Mirakian and several students shared their talents doing face painting. Members of the Board of Directors helped prepare hamburgers and hot dogs at the grill, and Paige's Italian Water Ice served up dessert. The BBQ also gave various school organizations a chance to promote their activities, including the ACS Boy Scout Troop and Cub Pack 389, the Missions Club, and the Parent-Teacher Fellowship. Thank you to all the ACS parents, Board members, teachers, and students who helped make the BBQ a success by volunteering or donating food.

We look forward to seeing all of our elementary parents tomorrow night at Back-to-School Night, starting at 6:30 p.m. It's a great way to get plugged into your child's classroom and to learn more about all our upcoming events and activities.

5TH GRADERS LEAD WEEKLY PREK-5TH CHAPEL WORSHIP -- Two 5th grade Worship Teams made their debut at Atlantic Christian's chapels last Friday, enthusiastically leading worship songs with lively choreography. They will continue using their talents each week throughout the school year. Fourteen students, the largest number to date, volunteered to lead worship this year, so two teams were created, one to lead the PreK1-Kindergarten chapel on Fridays at 10 a.m. and the other to lead the 1st-5th grade chapel at 1 p.m.

"We were thrilled to see so many students want to serve God in this way and help prepare the hearts of our students to receive the teaching from God's Word from our chapel speakers," said faculty member Teresa Bird, who is in her fourth year directing the effort. The members of this year's teams, who will meet weekly to practice after school are: Isabell Alford, Simone Bhullar, Bailey Boggs, Rebecca DiMaio, Aine Dorsey, Elana Epps, Macyn Hattman, Nevaeh Johnson, Autumn Loo, Taylor Murphy, Christy Park, Crystal Ramos, Arianna Rivera, and Makayla Tomlinson.

There were lots of smiles, high fives, and hugs today as teachers, staff, Student Ambassadors, PTF parents, and our mascot, Corgey the Cougar, welcomed students as they arrived by car and school bus for the first day of school. Today marked a special milestone -- new beginnings for our kindergarten students and the final chapter of secondary school for our seniors.

The school day opened with prayer and reciting the pledges to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible. The shorter half day for kindergarten through 12th grade students included lunch in the Multi-Purpose Room that now has brightly painted yellow and green walls. We welcome all our returning and new students, who hail from across southern New Jersey as well as from six foreign countries, and we look forward to a great 2017-2018 school year.
