GOVERNOR HUCKABEE INTERVIEW WITH WIBBAGE NEWS DIRECTOR RICK BRANCADORA
AIR DATE: 3/11/17 — 94.3 FM, 101.3 FM, WIBG 10:20 AM

Governor Mike Huckabee, presidential candidate, pastor, author, and political commentator, was the keynote speaker at Atlantic Christian’s 4th annual Legacy Gala on Friday, March 31 at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel in Atlantic City. Proceeds from the Gala supported the school’s educational and financial aid programs. Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen and 10th grade student Ryan Lomangino presented Governor Huckabee with a framed, original painting by Estell Manor artist Priscilla Heath with an inscription congratulating him for his exemplary legacy of public service and ministry over the past 35 years.

During his remarks to close to 400 guests at the Gala, Governor Huckabee emphasized the importance of Christian education in training up the next generation of America’s leaders. “The only way to change the country is to build leaders who are prepared to lead with Biblical values and a Biblical worldview,” Huckabee said. He also spoke passionately about the unique value of every human life. “There is no such thing as a life that does not matter,” Huckabee said. “We need to raise a generation that looks at every human being as having intrinsic worth and being important. It’s not about giving someone artificial self-esteem, it’s about connecting them to their Creator.”

In addition to Governor Huckabee’s keynote address, the Legacy Gala program included orations and choral performances by ACS students and recognition of the Atlantic Christian 2017 Servant’s Heart Award recipients – the Chick-Fil-A restaurant in Egg Harbor Township and its owner Mrs. Amy McCloy-Miles and veteran ACS faculty member and championship-winning varsity girls’ basketball coach Pam Hitchner.

12th grader and senior class president Joanna Noto opened the Gala program with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a powerful rendition of the National Anthem sung by Brian McSee, the Co-Director of the ACS Middle School and High School Chorales. A High School Select Ensemble gave an uplifting performance of “He Never Failed Me” and “My Soul Finds Rest – Psalm 62.” The student ensemble members were Naomi Glancey, Ashleigh Martin, Ayololoa Oguntuase, Amelia Sray, and Vernon Yang. 11th grader Zhenhao (Vernon) Yang and 12th grader Jasmine Feliciano presented their winning essays on how participating in community service during ACS missions trips has made an impact on their lives. The presentations concluded with 10th grader Ryan Lomangino introducing Governor Huckabee.

In his remarks, Governor Huckabee reflected on how Jasmine’s experience serving on missions trips in Haiti led her to pursue a career in nursing. “I want students to be good at what they do, but I want them to know why they are doing it,” Governor Huckabee said. “I see a young person like Jasmine choosing to be a nurse, but not because she wants to deal with sick bodies, but because she feels called by God to do this as a ministry.” Governor Huckabee noted that a Christian education is valuable because of its unique focus on helping young people understand that each one of them has God-given gifts, talents, and abilities. “Whether we are given one talent or ten talents, God expects us to be faithful with the gifts He’s given us and that’s what the students are learning at Atlantic Christian School,” Governor Huckabee said.

Highlights of ACS Legacy Gala 2016

Graham with Gala Sponsors

No one is immune to heartache, disappointment, and loss in their lives, but God is always in control and is there to help us — that was the encouraging message that Ruth Graham shared with some 240 guests at Atlantic Christian School’s 3rd annual Legacy Gala on Saturday, April 16 at the Stockton Seaview Hotel in Galloway. The Gala raised over $54,000 for Atlantic Christian’s educational and financial aid programs.

Graham spoke passionately about the value of Christian education, noting that she attended Christian school and that several of her nine grandchildren attend Christian school.  “I believe in Christian education, now more than ever, as the culture around us tells us there are no absolutes,” Graham said.  “But we know there is an infinite, almighty God who is on the throne, is still in charge, and will provide a  way through our struggles, and that is what Atlantic Christian teaches.”

Atlantic Christian’s Chief School Administrator Karen Oblen presented Graham with a plaque, noting that her life has been a shining light reflecting a legacy of faith, hope, love, and service. Graham is an  accomplished author, Bible teacher, and president of Ruth Graham Ministries. She has written nine books including the best-selling In Every Pew Sits a Broken Heart, the award-winning Step Into the Bible, and her latest book, Fear Not Tomorrow, God is Already There: Trusting Him in Uncertain Times.

In addition to Graham’s keynote address, the Legacy Gala program included presentations from ACS students and recognition of the Atlantic Christian 2016 Servant’s Heart Award recipients.  The Middle School and High School Chorales performed two songs, 4th graders Jade Qin and Hannah Campbell displayed their musical talents on the flute and piano, and essays focusing on the legacy of influential people in students’ lives were presented by 8th grader Emily Kelley and 12th graders Juyue Zhang and David Heuman. Seniors Jeff McConnell and Robin Simpson also participated in the program. Board of Directors’ Chair Doug Pearson presented the 2016 Servant’s Heart Awards to Linwood Community Church and ACS alumni parent and plumbing contractor Gary Higbee for their exemplary commitment and voluntary service to Atlantic Christian.
