Students in Mr. Dickson’s middle school math classes celebrated “Pi Day” with a variety of flavors and activities. The informal international holiday is based on the number 3.14, which represents the first three digits of the mathematical constant Pi as well as the date March 14.

Mr Dickson shared a number of “Pi fun facts” involving historical figures, significant mathematical discoveries, and even the Bible. Several students also competed for the title of “Pi Champ” attempting to write as many digits of Pi from memory as possible.

Everyone’s favorite activity was sampling one of seven varieties of delicious homemade pies made by Mr. Dickson’s wife, Lisa. The menu included chocolate, pecan, coconut, pumpkin, mixed berry, apple, and lemon pies.
