On Thursday, September 6, the World Literature CP and Honors classes formed two teams to “rebuild a time machine” and send William Shakespeare back to the 16th century.

The students used “BreakoutEDU” boxes with strategic game play similar to “escape rooms” which have recently gained in popularity. Clues hidden by faculty member Tori Novack throughout the room provided students with the necessary information to crack the coded locks on the black boxes. Students watched videos, deciphered a map, and interpreted cat posters among other activities to open all of the locks and “fix the time machine.”

“The students had so much fun during the activity that they didn’t even realize how much they were learning about the famous poet and dramatist,” Novack said.
